Track Standing Proficiency

Being a roadie around Austin I've had many a chance to practice track standing during training rides, especially because my training rides are usually in and around town where there are plenty of traffic lights to stop for.

For all the hours I spent earlier this year when I WAS training, I never seemed to get very good at track standing. For some strange reason, since I haven't been training much lately (as little as 1 hour/week) I've seemed to become much better at track standing. Hmmm, does anyone have any theories on this?

Here's my theory: I was never very good before because I was moving a lot more. Since I've been working so much and keeping relatively still, I can stay still on the bike better.

Doesn anyone have any better ideas?

Brush With Greatness

Funny thing, I've lived in Austin all my life, been cycling here for years, been around all the roadies and road events and never met Lance. I've never been at the right place at the right time although I have caught glimpses of him from time to time. Of course everyone I know, even those who have just recently moved here have all met the man, some have even ridden with him out of sheer luck! Well, yesterday was my day, and what did I do? I got a pink jersey signed by Ivan Basso instead!

The clue came from the guys at Bicycle Sport Shop who called me a couple weeks ago asking if I could get them some of the pink Santini jerseys. They were calling me because I was a rep for Santini among other brands through Red Rose Imports. Unfortunatly they were a bit late. I had dropped all my lines for a permanent position with Medion Corportation. Not to fear though, I have a knack for finding things. After looking around the internet I came across the pink leader's jersey from the Bicycling Hub. I exchanged some "industry talk" with the owner, Doug (great guy) and got the word passed to the guys at Bicycle Sport Shop. We ordered jerseys and were set. Set for what? Chris from BSS told me that they would have Ivan Basso, Lance Armstrong, Levi Leipheimer and Johan Bruneel at their shop signing autographs on Dec. 6th! Wahooo!

So, thanks to my devoted wife who gave me the opportunity to meet the guys by staying home to get the kids off to school as I usually do. She said she knew how important is was to me. Awwww, isn't that sweet!

Well, enough bragging. Gotta get some real work done. Cheers and Happy Holiday's to all!
